How do I help my teen cope with the pandemic?

Parenting any child through a pandemic is difficult. Parenting teenagers, who developmentally are preparing to separate from their parents, is perhaps a new level of bravery.  Check out some of these ideas and supports from our Teen Counseling Program team, as well as their Resources for Teens in Crisis.

Computers 4 Kids combines mentoring and technology to prepare youth for a brighter future.  Membership for 6th through 12th graders to explore technology, art, robotics and design is free.  Click here to apply to become a member.

The Charlottesville skate park, playgrounds, picnic shelters, and golf course are open.  All city parks and trails are also open.  Carver Rec Center has open basketball times for teens. Key Rec Center has a Teen Center with video games and internet access.

The local library has a variety of virtual events available including book groups, game groups and various clubs.  Check out all of their events for teens here.

The Music Resource Center empowers tomorrow’s community leaders through the universal language of music..  Membership is open for all 6th to 12th graders.  Click here to find out about their COVID-19 policies.
