When Rose connected with Healthy Families during her second pregnancy, she was facing an overwhelming set of challenges. As a mother of a young son with another baby on the way, she was navigating a high-risk pregnancy, which resulted in the loss of her job when she was put on bed rest. Without a steady income, her housing situation quickly became unstable, leaving her focused not only on caring for her son and preparing for her new baby’s arrival, but also on finding a safe place for her family to live. Despite these obstacles, Rose remained determined to build a brighter future for herself and her children.
Throughout this difficult period, Rose worked closely with her Family Support Worker (FSW), who provided encouragement, guidance, and practical support. Together, they explored community resources and developed strategies to help Rose meet her family’s immediate needs. One goal stood above the rest: securing stable housing. Recognizing the importance of safe and reliable housing for both Rose and her children, her Family Support Worker encouraged her to apply for the MACAA Hope House Family Navigation program, a transitional housing initiative designed to help families achieve long-term stability and success.
The application process was far from simple. With a lengthy 24-page application and two interviews, Hope House is a highly competitive program. Rose and her Family Support Worker used every available moment during their weekly visits to work toward this goal, balancing application requirements with the regular support and services Healthy Families provides. Their persistence paid off. In late December, Rose received the news she had been hoping for: she had been accepted into the program. Just in time for the New Year, Rose and her two children moved into a safe, stable home, giving her family the security they desperately needed.
Today, with housing no longer an immediate concern, Rose can focus on building the future she envisioned for her family. During visits with her Family Support Worker, conversations have shifted toward early childhood development, engaging activities for her children, and the personal goals she is working on. Rose’s story is a powerful example of what can happen when families are connected with the right support at the right time. Through home visiting, Healthy Families helps parents overcome barriers, strengthen their confidence, and create the stable foundation every child deserves to thrive.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
