Racism is Trauma

George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Trayvon Martin, Emmett Till, countless others … The list of names is too long and the injustice unfathomable. And, it is all too real for our Black neighbors, co-workers, friends, family members, fellow citizens.

As we begin another week, we remember their names and our outrage and grief over their murders. We know that actions must accompany words and ReadyKids will act.

We Will Listen – Black children and families are resilient but their lives have been under threat for generations. We will listen to Black voices with lived experience so we can be part of the solution.
We Will Learn – Racial trauma is pervasive and has devastating lifelong impacts. We will learn how we can best prevent and respond to the trauma that is ever present for our black community.
We Will Stand – We will work in solidarity with black leaders to identify and eliminate systemic racism. ReadyKids has a long history and we will be accountable to it. The disparities are glaring and we must do more to dismantle the white supremacy that holds them in place.
We Will Not Be Silent – To be silent is to be complicit in the inequity and violence. We will speak up to expose the injustices we know to be present.

Black children must have the same safety and opportunity as white children.

Our future depends on it.

If you want to learn more, here is one place to start.
